THE ALUMNI BULLETIN 18 Dec 1948 Merry Christmas Yo-Hi has that quiet holiday atmosphere to be found only in schools after the students have departed for the holiday season. What a contrast from yesterday. Yesterday 17 December, a program was presented by the dramatics club at 1:30 in assembly. After the program the students returned to their home rooms for parties. I made an attempt to visit each home room (we have eight of them this year) and have cake and ice cream with each class. I implored the students to make my helpings light, but this group has very definite ideas of what a man should eat. After the third room I had to put all cake, fudge and nut offerings in a box. You all remember my plump build. Well those kids didn't help my "figger" a bit yesterday. MAIL CALL - Only one letter this month and that from a member of last year's Junior class. Ernie says: Captain McCartney I received the transcript today. Thanks a lot. I guess now they might let me graduate in February unless I flunk, but I doubt that because on the last report I got 1 A and 4 B's. Later I found out from my teachers that I would have had 4 A's and 1 B but I had mussed the first part of the term. Well so much for the bragging session. I had written a letter to you to enclose with my first message but left it out because I didn't know that you were still there, now I know they still have you to put up with so I'm writing. Had a nice trip home on the "Republic" as far as the company was concerned. "Biff", Paul Fuller, Jean and Dick Fuller and some others from different parts of Japan, but somebody had the nerve to call "The Tub" the flagship of the fleet. It's lots of fun sleeping in the bilge's if you can kick the rats out of the way. Jim Hyatt met us in Seattle and Russ, Paul and I went up to Jim's for a couple days and then we went down to Tacoma to see "Biff" and then back to Everett to Jim's for another day and then to the hostess house at (Ft) Lawton. Had a swell time travelling about and then Jim and Russ joined the Army and all I had to do was sit around, sleep, read, eat and tell the people leaving for the land of "The Hone Bucket" the horrors of said place. I think I got some of them worried. But oh how I wish I was there now, still trying to get the kids spirit up enough to enter the Neet-Nac. Thanks for the Alumni Bulletin. It is a good idea, keep it up. Please see if you can get some information on the class rings because I would rather have one fromYo-Hi where my heart lies than W-L where my brain lies at the present time. Sayonara Ernie's address: Ernie, the order for class rings has already been submitted, however I believe that if you will write to: Dieger and Clust, 17 John Street, New York 8, New York; give them your ring size and place your order for shipment direct to you it will not be too late to get your ring. If we had to order from here it would probably be too late. You could call Mr. A. H. Hicks, Sales Manager. Ring will cost about $13.00. Our basketball team has played four games and won all of them. Three service teams and St Joseph's College. We play both Tokyo High Schools (Meguro and Narimasu) a series of two games each this year. We are also planning a tournament in March. I hope that you all have had a very Merry Christmas and my very best wishes for a Happy New Year. Sayonara Captain McCartney |
