ALUMNI GROUP

EVOLUTION

THE ALUMNI [GROUPS] ORGANIZATION

It is difficult to determine how and when the various alumni group evolved, but essentially they all are divided into 4 different basic High School "Groups": The "Bluff" Group, The "Beach" Group, The "Yokohama - Kinnick" Group and The "Yokosuka - Kinnick" Group. These groups are primarily for HIGH school members but include students and faculty from the Nasugbu Beach, Negishi Heights (Byrd), Sullivans and Callaghan Elementary Schools, St Joseph's College, and other "system" schools as well.

Most Groups conduct periodic reunions, a few publish quarterly Newsletters to it's members, as well as provide address listings of Alumni, and have a "POC" (point-of-contact) who manages that group. Each of the Groups (except the "Bluff" Group) is sub-divided into smaller groups representing a limited number of class years, and they have "POC's" as well.

A Feb 1997 graphical illustration depicts the evolution of the 1947-1960 era groups and increasing membership figures. Development statistics / conditions of other groups is unknown or pending validation at this point.

1947-1952 "Bluff" Group

For former students and faculty who attended when the School was located on the "Bluff". It covers the years September 1947 through June 1952. These are the April 1998 statistics pertaining to this group - the reunion "participation" appears typical of most groups.

Those attending when the High School was located at Nasugbu Beach, in Yokohama, starting in September 1952. This group is also known as the YOKOHAMA AMERICAN HIGH SCHOOL FORMER STUDENTS ASSOCIATION [FSA], and has begun including members who attended after the school was renamed. The expansion and development of this group continues at a steady pace and is larger now than these March 1997 figures indicate.

"Kinnick" (Yokohama / Yokosuka) Groups

For those attending when the school was renamed the Nile C Kinnick [Navy Dependent School] in 1960 (while at Nasugbu Beach location), and then moved to Yokosuka in 1971 - where it exists today. The overall "Kinnick" Group is sub-divided into several smaller groups as well, some have hundreds of members and overlapping "attendance" years, as do all YOHI Groups.

SUMMARY

As of  Jan 2001 there are 10 groups, including a deceased group.  Two, perhaps three alumni elements are known to exist, are struggling through the woes of organization, but have not yet identified themselves to us as a group desiring recognition as such.  They involve SOME of the alumni from the 1980's and 1990'.  Many alumni from those 2 decades have shown no move yet to organize that we are aware of.

The 10 groups, and the respective managers are:
