HOUSING AREA, HAYAMA The adjacent housing area which also supported Camp McGill was called Admiralty Heights. It is believed that name came from a WW II Admiralty Islands campaign in which the 5th Cav fought - they occupied Camp McGill after WW II. Unknown. This area (including Nagia where Camp McGill was located) is now serviced by a comuter train via Yokosuka to Yokohama Station.  Nagia Heights has been returned to the Japanese.
HOUSING AREA, YAMASHITA PARK 25-30 homes Yes, no homes. Some 1988 Photos . The new fountain area and other landscaping in 1997. Feb 1999.
HOUSING AREA, ZUSHI . The U.S. Navy constructed a new housing are in 1994 - called the Ikego Housing Area, and is in the process of building a new housing area in Higashi Zushi.
MILITARY BASE, ATSUGI AFB Atsugi Yes, now a U.S. Naval Air Facility.
MILITARY BASE, CAMP FUJI Near Hakone Yes, now a US Marine Base.
MILITARY BASE, CAMP DRAKE (Asaka), Showa Air Base (Akishima) Medical Center (Zama) Tokyo Area Closed 14 Feb 1986 and returned to Japanese.
MILITARY BASE, CAMP MCGILL Between Nagai and Hayama The only military installation that now exists is Camp Takeyama - a Japan Ground Self-Defense Force school and recruit traning camp.
MILITARY BASE, CHOFU AFB Chofu Chofu Air Base and Kanto Village Housing Area were returned to Japanese control in 1974. The USAF housing area was in fact constructed there in 1963 to make room for the Olympics Villages and Washington Heights Area was closed. The housing in the Washington Heights Area moved to Kanto Village just before the games. Then the installation was closed 11 years later to relocate to Yokota Air Base in West Tokyo. The ruins of the USAF housing existed in the abandoned woods until very recently but now all destroyed. Massive construction is underway to build a soccer stadium, a university and a police academy. An airfield in Chofu is still used commercially.
MILITARY BASE, FUCHINOBE Fuchinobe Returned to Japanese control in 1974. It now houses a park and several secondary schools - including Veterinary School.
MILITARY BASE, FUCHU ARMY AIR CORPS BASE (later AFB) Fuchu Still exists. After 5th Air Force Headquarters moved to Yokota Air Base in 1974, Japan Air Self-Defense Force became the primary user of the site. Other than JASDF Fuchu Air Base, there is a park, a junior high school and a civic theater in the former USAF site.
MILITARY BASE, JOHNSON AFB Ogimachiya The site is now called Japan Air Self-Defense Force Iruma Air Base. A part of the former USAF housing area was converted into a park in 1978. A few military housing still exists as a historical monument.
MILITARY BASE, TACHIKAWA Tachikawa Tachikawa Air Base was split into three areas when the USAF left the installation in 1977. One is the Showa Memorial Park ("Showa" is the official name of the late emperor who is known in the West as Hirohito), the eastern area became JGSDF Camp Tachikawa, and the remaining area is still deserted.
MILITARY BASE, TOKOROZAWA Tokorozawa U.S. military facility in Tokorozawa still exists although shrunken in size to about a half. There is a USAF communications station there. The remaining area was transformed to house a hospital, Defense Medical Academy and a park. An old C-47 aircraft can been seen in the park.
