UNIQUE GRADUATION:   Due to a fire at the Yokosuka Base Chapel, and renovations of other suitable facilities, the Class of 1978 and 1980 held their graduation aboard the USS Midway (CV141) on the Hanger Deck.  As of the 1999 she is still in mothballs at the Bremerton, Washinton yard.  The Class of 1979 was to graduate on the Midway as well, but because of the Iranian crisis, the Midway was out to sea. Thus, the USS Oklahoma City was chosen instead. The following is from the Navy Times dated April 12, 1999 - "The cruiser Oklahoma City, the former flagship of the U.S. Seventh Fleet, was sunk as a target ship on March 25, 1999 during a major exercise near the Mariana Islands. Ships, submarines, and aircraft from five different nations pounded the 55-year old ship with missiles and gunfire before the South Korean submarine Lee Chun moved in to score a direct torpedo hit, breaking "OK City" in half and sending her down 6,000 feet to the ocean floor."
