YOHI NEWSLETTERS ("ECHOES", ALUMNI BULLETIN, TRIDENT)

The 1948 Senior Class nominated "YO-HI" Echoes to the   "student body" as the name for the School Newspaper -- and it was accepted.  During that era it was published weekly by the students.  It echoed the events, thoughts and opinions within the hallowed halls of Yo-Hi.  Gossip, sports columns, fashion articles and editorials kept the students in contact with the news of the week and provided communications between students and administration, students and teachers, and the students themselves.

Starting in 1948 and for about a year and a half the school also published a YOHI Alumni Bulletin for those who had graduated.

At some point the "TRIDENT" - a more formal monthly publication , was created to expand upon the events, attitudes and opinions shared by the diverse Yo-Hi population.  It contained photographs and was published by use of typeset at the Navy Print Shop in the beginning - as opposed to a mimeograph machine. It is believed to have begun about 1961, and the winning name (Trident) was nominated by Rob Hammer (Class of 1964).  Rob says he was awarded the grand price of one doller at a school assembly for that purpose in the Gym.

As of 1993 we know the school paper was still called the "Echoes"; the status of the Trident is unknown.  However, at some point the Navy began devoting space to Yo-Hi in a publication called the "SeaHawk", and is known to exist in 1999.
