Originally, Camp Drake formed part of an Imperial Japanese Army training facility; it was taken over by the US Army at the end of World War II. The post is named after Colonel Royce A. Drake, who was killed in action while commanding the 5th Cavalry during the liberation of the Philippines. Colonel Drake was killed in action on Leyte in 1945......
