FUNDING |
Although there will always be a need for fund planning for the future, that will not become a problem until the fall of 2008 -- the date in which funds on hand, and / or may be obtained in the near future by resumption of contributions or CD sales will have been exhausted and we are broke. Today funding is NOT the issue with this announcement. Until 2002 the web site operated without funding support Iva and I paid all expenses. Starting in 2002, the internet as a whole [including the hosts -- or servers -- where ones site is created and stored] changed their concept and policies whereby storage space was offered free for advertising something for them, or for a minimal cost, to one in which they wanted a huge fee for storage space and administrative services. For us that started out at $210.00 per year plus a one time expense of $69.50 for a domain name for 10 years. As you know in 2002 we solicited 'contributions', and initiated a CD program to possibly assist in the funding matter. In 2004, hosts, developed schemes to obtain even more money for those of us who had web sites. For example, they began charging for such things as the software needed to upload files. Previously, well before XP came along, that software was free. FTP, just one form of software among others that must be used by web site managers to easily and quickly upload and manage the files at the storage site, now had to be purchased. That software is absolutely essential to web site management. At the same time, dishonest and lowlife criminals, found ways to penetrate the security of the site and the owners and managers e-mails and computers with ads and viruses making access to the internet and the site itself -- impossible without spy ware and virus protection. That became an added new cost with an annual renewal expense. In 2005 our annual expenses to our host [server], and to just maintain management and protective software, with subscriptions, is running at $300.00 per year. It is highly likely that additional expenses of this type will follow in the years to come. Let me reemphasize that funds are available at the moment to offset those expenses and it is NOT a problem at the moment until into 2008. But here are some other facts you need to be aware of. Funds received from contributions since 2002 when funding began will have been consumed by July 2005, and I will have fulfilled my obligation to those who contributed. Those funds were expended exactly as programmed in 2002 host expenses. Other expenses, and from July 05 on the site will operate solely from the proceeds of CD sales, which has a different set of rules as far as expenditures are concerned. Effective until a decision is made about the future of the site, controls have been put in place that limit the production / sale of CDs, and the acceptance of contributions to drastically slow if not outright prevent any increase in assets. Any increase would / could drastically complicate the disposition of those funds if the web site ceases to exist on or before 2008; and at the same time would impact upon our personal federal income tax returns in the years between now and then. Because of the 'income' from contributions and the sale of CDs which began in 2002, the web site had to be picked up as a business on our personal federal tax returns -- as will yours if.............! Should the ultimate outcome of actions by the alumni be
to NOT keep the site in existence because a You can learn more about the funding status by visiting the CD section of the web site at this URL --http://www.yohidevils.net/cdnotice/yohicd1.htm. Before we leave the funding issue you can see from the above that it costs money to run the web site / CD -- but what has been mentioned so far is only a small portion of the TOTAL cost. The most expensive part is the expenditure of 'personal funds' to be privileged to keep the project going. That comes from money directly out of your pocket, and is not reimbursed to you by anyone. Unless you or someone else changes the rules you are going to have to purchase ALL of the equipment mentioned herein, double some of it for backup, then pay the maintenance and operating costs for that equipment -- all supplies, postage and incidental items necessary for the processing of memorabilia, awards, searching, communications and ...................... It is going to cost you thousands of dollars over the years -- so be prepared for the real world if you apply. |
