To assist the owners of the YOHI WORLD CD's to determine what has changed since they acquired their disc from me, the following table depicts events that have occurred during the periods shown and added as each new version has been published.  Thus, you can determine if you want an updated disc. 

Remember, an 'updated version' includes the ENTIRE WEB SITE -- not just changes from the last version; plus it includes all the added items as shown below in this color to that date.   Items in this color are NOT included on the web site for the reasons stated below.

To order updates, send the same fee to Jim at any time and a new disc will be prepared, identified to you, and shipped right away.  We never know in advance when alumni are going to send memorabilia for inclusion, but are grateful when they do and it is processed and added as soon after arrival as possible.

005a 29 Dec 02 Technical change to ADD an 'autoplay' function, permitting the disc to automatically 'play' when inserted into the CD ROM drive on most computers; and the inclusion of a 'readme' type file to explain the ways in which the disc may be accessed.  Temporary 'label' explaining this inserted on back of jewel case pending re-printing of 'decal' on inside of jewel case -- commercially -- when stocks are depleted.

Created 'The Principals' page [with 9 images] in the Library to permit the school principal to add pictures and make comments to the alumni on a monthly basis.  Added 14 images for July 2003 San Diego Reunion,  3 images of the Gen Hersey, the 1962 class ring with accompanying pictures from Rene, 2 images from Larry Rowe for the school year 56-57.  Added 1 pic to school year 5051 of Gen MacArthur departure in Apr 1951.  Annotated the location of the Nile Kinnick Stadium on the 'Tokyo' map, and provided new material to explain it.   Added 98 photos from June Shishido's July San Diego Reunion.

YOHI SITE:  

Added the complete 1962 and 1965 yearbooks in HUGE format -- actually bigger than the real books.   This means that there are now 9 complete yearbooks on the CD:  1948, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1954, 1962 and 1965.  These yearbooks are NOT on the web site.

Added 40 photos from the Oct 2000 Ft Walton Beach reunion.

Added 91 photos from the Oct 2005 Phoenix reunion.

Updated 'Ships', 'Principal's', and 'Alumni list' pages.

Many 'glitches' in earlier versions have been fixed.

This disc is believed to now be viewable on some MacIntosh type computers.
NOTE:

1 -- Only 'SIGNIFICANT' changes made for which the alumni who have received a CD/DVD would be interested in are noted in the 'NOTEWORTHY CHANGES' column. 

2 -- Many administrative changes are occurring which result in a change of version, with or without increases or decreases in the number of files, but the basic content of that versions series remains the same except for additions as  enumerated above.  For example:  correction of misspelled words, updating of 'lists', refinements or similar function improvements and changes or removal of extraneous items.

3 -- Some items added to the disc are NOT added to the 'on-line' web site/s.   Reasons are many but primarily because of storage or loading limitations.  For example:  the 1948 and 1949 yearbooks require more storage space than can be allowed for yearbooks in general on the 'on-line' site.   Items in maroon color denote items NOT included on the YOHI web site - 'on-line'.   On the other hand, there are a few items 'on-line' but not on the disc.

 

CD 'PROBLEMS'

Although every effort has been made to produce an error free disc  -- properly coded to conform to millions of requirements of the many many standards of dozens of computer systems / browsers the alumni use to view the disc, it cannot be guaranteed that everything on the disc works as expected.    Much is involved here, and we are learning and doing our best with the equipment and knowledge we have.  I do make mistakes from time to time in coding as well, and sometimes fail to realize that a code which works fine on my equipment will NOT work on someone else's computer -- testing facilities have been very limited as I only have 2 computers. 

Although each of the billions of 'bits' of code / data on the disc is tested at least twice on the master set of files from which all disc's are made [burned];  sometimes problems still develop -- some caused by the burning process itself and go undetected because I cannot check each of the 10,000 files individually on each disc before it is shipped.    Remember, each disc is individually made -- NOT COPIED!

Aging computers here at home used for the creation and testing perhaps is taking is not detecting all problems, so new equipment is being planned.

It has also been determined that some of the super applets -- those special features that enhance a page and make it more interesting -- may be overloading some alumni computers.  Thus, over time those enhancements will be removed from future versions where possible.

Although no one has reported any problems to me, follows is a list of some I have discovered myself using 'friends' equipment recently, and if you are the owner of one of these disc's and would like a free replacement just let me know.
Versions 14, 15, 16 Some 'links' to the 'schools' identified on the HomePage of the YOHI site -- the main page -- were contaminated and would not work when attempting to access those links from that page.  However, the same identical links located in the 'Library' Section continued to work properly; thus, although inconvenient, all the material on the disc was still accessible and nothing was lost or not viewable.   The problem was  fixed on version # 17.
Version 16 and 17 [thru CD # 197] The 1947-1971 index page in the Yearbook section will not work properly on some computers.  On those an error message appears when attempting to access the links on that page.  Ignore the message, follow the link as usual and you will still see all there is to see.   The problem was fixed with CD # 198.
