YOHI  WORLD FUTURE AND THE CD / DVD

NOTICE

Although the pages of this section are going to be left intact for reference purposes, their contents no longer apply.

Effective 31 Dec 2005, the acceptance of contributions / sale of CD's is suspended.  This action is taken for the following reasons:

1] CD 'burner' equipment failures in December 2005 preventing the creation of CD's.

2] Legal, technical and 'Tax' issues involved with the operation of a 'business' at a 'loss' on a recurring basis.

Although the web site will continue, subject to the provisions outlined FOR THE FUTURE, a decision will be made in the months to come concerning the future.

PLEASE DON'T 'COPY' OUR DISC!  THE PROCEEDS FROM THE SALE OF OUR DISC'S ARE NEEDED TO PAY FOR THE COST OF KEEPING THE WEB SITE 'ON-LINE' AND AVAILABLE FOR VIEWING BY ALUMNI. [Oct 2004]

Prior to 2002, all funds required to support the Yohi Web Site were the personal funds of Jim and Iva Hyatt.

In late 2002 and despite our desire to keep the Yohi web site available to you forever, the survivability of it as a base for alumni to visit and learn of their history became uncertain and was in jeopardy of being lost.  The reason for that condition was 'Servers' willing to host the site on the internet for FREE [or were minimal charges] were no longer willing to do so for nominal fees.   The site was already in debt with expenses for 2002, and we committed ourselves to continue the site through 2003 regardless to give alumni a chance to understand our plight, and react.    Expenses [debt] for 2002 was $279.50 [includes a 10 year 'domain name' costs of $69.50] -- and an additional $210.00 'server' cost was needed for 2003.  The $210.00  figure represents the present annual [8 Feb to 7 Feb the following year] server cost, and that figure is used to project our 'out year' survivability based upon all available funds.   [Starting in 2004, additional annual expenses to 'stay' on line were encountered and those are paid from 'surplus' generated by the CD/DVD program -- which reduces the previously announced 'out year' potential].

Thus an announcement was made here asking alumni for assistance to keep the site available, and about the same time we announced the publishing of a CD/DVD which would further assist; although the disc [The Yohi World] was created primarily to document and preserve the historical data from the beginning of YOHI in 1946 to today, and capture the adventure of thousands of alumni who subsequently attended -- else our collective journey there would be lost forever as the older alumni pass on -- and was being 'sold for cost'.

The idea was to provide alumni, and their children and grand children and other family members, a means to re-live and experience the 'YOHI World' as you and others did way back when you attended.  It provides a medium in which you can enjoy the web site at your home with the convenience, speed and ease of operation associated with the efficiency of your computer -- instead of 'going on-line' and wasting valuable time and effort!

Within a few months after our announcement about the plight of the web site, and after generous contributions from alumni, and a surprise tiny surplus generated from the disc orders due to over estimating, the crisis began to ease.   Thank you for your contributions, and your interest in the disc!

Since 2002, 'contributions' [and surplus disc funds] are used exclusively to pay  expenses to just keep the web site 'on-line', all other expenses are still funded by Jim and Iva Hyatt from personal funds.

So, although the survivability of the web site is more stable than it was at the end of 2002, if you would like to make a contribution or purchase a CD/DVD to sustain it into the future please contact Jim for details.

The disc being offered however still may be the only way to preserve a permanent record of the history at YOHI for you.

The disc contains everything included on this web site -- the entire history of YOHI from it's beginning in 1946 to present day.  It contains over 10,000 files [mostly images].  It includes also specific associated class / era web sites -- for example: The Class of 1948, 1954 ["C" Group], the E" Group site [classes 1960-1979], the 1970-1979 site of June Shishido, and Joe Ross's Class of 1971 sites.  It includes other material not included on the web sites due to space limitations or other reasons. For example; a complete pictorial view of the 1948 thru 1954 Yearbooks, recent pictures of the school facilities at Yokosuka, and a HUGE map of Yokohama created in 1949 which shows all the facilities built / acquired for use by the U. S. Forces ...... and more....... -- see 'updates' for complete list of additions.

The disc is available to alumni only, and you may order one at any time by contacting Jim.  You may if you wish also order a disc for a sibling or family member.  Here is additional information:

The CD/DVD is free, that is, NO charge is made for labor, equipment use, transportation, etc; however, a $10.00 shipping and handling fee is assessed.  That covers the cost of the blank disc itself, the 4 colorful labels that accompany it, the CD storage [jewel] case, mailing pouch, and postage.   Should any surplus accrue from the 'fee', it will be donated to defray the cost of keeping the web site 'on-line'.

There are limitations imposed with respect to use of the disc, and you should be aware of very important system requirements.  They are explained in the links below:

New material is being added to the web site all the time, and thus eventually to the CD/DVD.  Obviously, only the last disc produced will contain ALL the updates.  This means that an update system is  needed where by those who acquired a disc early in it's production cycle can review what has been added -- is not on their copy, and can re-order if they want.  Here is the status of updates:

Are you having trouble finding the files on the disc -- especially the file that loads up the YOHI World -- yohiworld.html?   Or maybe you want to view [quickly] just a section on yearbooks.  Perhaps I can help!

If you have YOHI memorabilia that you feel should be displayed and preserved by placement on the web site and or disc, please contact Jim Hyatt!
